Our first week of a return to partial in-person attendance has generally been successful. While teachers have been finding a way to balance in-person learners with the vast majority of learners still online, we have learned a great deal about how to be as effective as possible. It was nice to see some faces in 3D again! We are satisfied that our space is safe, and that our plan for reducing contact and droplet spread is working. We will continue to follow the schedule of in-person attendance shared in the last email to parents, based on organization group affiliation.

It is certainly not as warm and vibrant as usual in the school, but partial in-person return has given some learners an opportunity to access school settings that make certain activities possible when they may not have been otherwise. If you hear any stories from your children about their in-person attendance that you think could help us do things better, please let us know. This is new and strange for everyone!

Monday, June 8 attenders and Numeracy Exam

A reminder that those learners who are attending in-person at the school site on Monday, June 8 (tomorrow) will be going outside in the afternoon to accommodate the writing of a numeracy exam for some Grade 12 learners. Because of the current layout of our school for COVID-19 safety purposes, we cannot safely seat the exam writers and the other learners simultaneously. We have planned an outdoor group activity for those who wish to stay in the afternoon.

We will start seating the exam at 12:30 for a 1:00 pm start. Those who are writing the exam (you know who you are!) should arrive by 12:30 and must bring their laptop and charger and a pencil.

Grad Ceremony – June 20

PSII’s graduation ceremony is a go! After much deliberation and planning, we have reached an agreement with St. Ann’s to allow us to offer a safe graduation ceremony on June 20 at 1:00 pm. The ceremony will be held in St. Ann’s Chapel. The grads and the teachers will be the only ones in attendance in person, and the ceremony will be streamed online for the audience. More details on this in a couple of days. We just found out that we have the venue, and we wanted to let you know right away!

Last Day

The last day of instruction is June 19. We will have some volunteer in-person attenders that day, and will be offering online Zoom classes as we have been for the past three months. We ask that learners take home their belongings for the summer on the last day of their in-person attendance, or arrange for a time otherwise to come in gather belongings. We also ask that learners return all library books to the school, and any other equipment (except where a summer borrowing arrangement has been made) they may have.

After the 19th, the teachers will be engaged in summative assessment for all learners, creating final report cards that will show marks in competed courses, as well as percentages of completion for any unfinished courses that will be carried over in the 2020-21 school year. Report cards will be sent home in early July.

September

While we do not have enough information to know exactly what September will look like at PSII, we are preparing for several possibilities. One is a full return to in-person attendance. This is our preference, but we know we also must prepare for a return to school that may not allow that. The other two possibilities include a partial in-person/partial online situation and a fully online situation, depending on what BC’s Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health allow. We will keep you up to date through the summer as we learn any news that might give us a better sense of what things will be like in the fall.

Tuition

Please see the tuition page on this website for details on tuition. Though our building is closed right now, you can still come in to drop off post-dated cheques if you prefer that to mail. E-transfers are also OK. All amounts, dates, and procedures are listed here.

2020-21 Calendar

Next year’s calendar is on our website now. Please refer to it often, as it has quite a bit of detail on it for the 2020-21 school year. Once we are back in session in the fall, you will also be able to access our Google detailed daily calendar that shows what group sessions and some other activities are happening each day at the school.
