BC Excellence Scholarship

  • application due February 15, 2017
  • There are 55 BC Excellence Scholarships available to recognize well-rounded B.C. graduates. Winners will have demonstrated service and leadership, both at school and in their communities, and shown aptitude and commitment to their chosen career paths. They will receive a $5000 scholarship voucher to use for post-secondary tuition.

BC Provincial Scholarships

The province of BC has a number of scholarship programs. The most up-to-date information on these programs can be found on page 105 (PDF page 113) of the BC Graduation Handbook of Procedures.

It is important to see what scholarships require an application, and when to apply.

Here is a summary of what is available and who is eligible:

Dogwood-District Authority Awards

Dogwood-District Authority Awards are provincially funded awards. They recognize excellence for graduates who excel in the areas of fine arts, applied skills, physical activity, second languages, community service or technical and trades training, and include:

  • $1250 for use towards post secondary education
  • 5500 awards pro-rated to districts/authorities, based on district enrollment

Eligibility and Criteria for Awards:

  • Enrolled in public or Group 1, 2, or 4 independent school
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Must meet graduation requirements
  • Must meet criteria determined by the local District Scholarship Committee
  • May receive both the district award and provincial scholarship (as well as a Passport award)
  • Redeemable at designated post-secondary institutions and approved Industry Training Authority (ITA) providers within 5 years of graduation

Grade 12 Graduation Program Examinations Scholarships

Recognized academic achievement on Grade 10, 11 and 12 Provincial Examinations

  • $1000 voucher for winners
  • $2500 voucher for top 20 winners in the province
  • Approximately 5000 students annually

Eligibility and Criteria for Provincial Scholarships:

  • Enrolled in public or Group 1, 2, or 4 independent school
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Must meet graduation requirements
  • Must earn at least a “B” in English 12, TPC12 or Francais langue premiere 12.
  • Ranks among top 5000 scholarship students in BC (based on their percentage score)
  • May receive both the provincial scholarship and district award (as well as a passport award)
  • Redeemable at designated post-secondary institutions and approved Industry Training Authority (ITA) providers within 5 years of graduation
